Emotional Design Meetup

Emotionally Intelligent Product Design

I had such a good time prepping this presentation about tools we can use to detect emotion of users and make our products better. I espically loved people coming up to me afterward saying that I had "inspired" them. So cool.

Software products today no matter how sophisticated, still lack the capability to learn and adjust its behaviours over time. Unless you have a programmer telling software in real time how to respond to users, technology will always lack what the humans bring to the table: emotions.

As human beings, understanding and responding to emotion is one of the first things we learn, but what about software? With all the advances that have been made in the world of software design, designing real emotions and intelligence continues to be the missing puzzle piece that could transform all machines into entities the could demonstrate what it means to be truly intelligent.

If we as human beings still lack the means to design emotionally intelligent technology, what could we develop that would be an adequate alternative? Should we settle for alternatives, or should we keep pushing for technology that can think and work for us?

Let's discuss how we explore tackling the challenges with designing technology that could understand, process, and respond to emotion in such a way that it's indistinguishable from how people would. Come and hear from some fellow product designers about their adventures in building technology that is meant to show intelligence, intuition, emotion, and even personality.
