Crop and Chop: Valuable lessons from a designer and wanna be chef.

"After 9 hours working on a computer pushing pixels all day I would venture off to volunteer in cooking class and be on my feet for 4 hours doing mise en place, serving wine, plating and washing dishes."

Cooking and graphic design may not have a whole lot in common, but to me they do.  Cooking and design can both experience great creative highs and sometimes devastating vision compromises (that is the subject for another blog), but one of the most inspiring similarities is the concept of the team, the brigade.  The idea of working together and learning from a superior/one another in order to better yourself and therefore better the company, be it culinary or creative.

The black list

"Humm...I dont know, have you tried it in Copperplate Gothic Bold?!?"

This is the story of my most hated typeface.

It was my first real designer job, everyone has been there, where you have to be so agreeable that all you do is make bad products all day.  This was the point in my life where I hadn't had the confidence enough yet to say "no" nor the skill set to make beautiful things on a regular basis.
